Why is Creativity Important?
A recent study conducted by Adobe called Creativity and Education: Why It Matters (2012) sought to find out how important creativity was to becoming a successful individual within society. This study interviewed 1000 U.S., college educated full-time professionals. This is what they found.
- 71% of college educated professionals believed that creative thinking should be taught as a course, like math or science
- 78% believed that creative thinking was important to their career
- 82% wished they had more exposure to creative thinking as a student
- 78% wished they had more creative ability
- 75% viewed creativity as important in school
- 91% agree their is more to success in school than focusing on course materials
This study proves two fundamental ideas.
- Creativity is essential for individuals to become successful in the classroom and in their future careers.
- Schools are not teaching creative thinking skills to students.
- Creativity builds critical thinkers.
Why Utilize Technology?
- Students Already Use: It whether they are talking to friends, creating websites, or looking up information on the internet.
- The Internet: The World Wide Web has become an incredible resource for thousands of free creativity tools. Companies, Teachers, and students around the world are creating new educational tools and resources everyday.
- Future Jobs: One of the basic functions of schools has always been to prepare the future generation for the job market. Studies show that most future professionals will involve using technology.
