This is a case-study video showcasing how two teachers used Google SketchUp to enhance critical thinking and planning skills of their students. Michael Hawthorn, Social Studies teacher at Hartford High school in Vermont has presented at Google GEO Institute in 2010 about how he re-purposed the technology to engage students in learning local history. Hawthorn’s students do not look at buildings around them without thinking about how they could be sketched and added to Google Earth’s collection. His students have created a video with testimonies of how the class has made an impact on them. Also featured in the video is Keith Kelley, Integrated Technology teacher at RSU #19 in Maine. Kelley teaches an Integrated Technology planning class where his students are required to design, develop prototypes and create objects. Kelley has been amazed at the projects thought of and developed by 8th grade students. SketchUp has been used to foster both creativity and critical thinking skills in these classrooms.
